An exceptionally rare original Gibson guitar string display, officially featured in the 1939 Gibson catalog and among the most elusive pieces of pre-war Gibson dealer advertising known to collectors today.

Designed as a countertop display for music stores and guitar dealers, this piece was intended to sit between the customer and the salesperson. The front-facing side prominently showcased Gibson branding and string offerings to customers, while the rear section could be opened by the seller to access and store packaged string sets. Its practical dual-sided design made it both an advertising piece and a functional point-of-sale display.

Examples of this display seldom surface on the market, and surviving originals are considered highly desirable among Gibson collectors, vintage guitar enthusiasts, and advertising memorabilia specialists. Finding one in any condition is difficult; finding a complete example is almost unheard of.

This particular display remains in very good overall condition considering its age of more than 85 years. The only notable restoration is the backplate, which is a professionally made reproduction. It has been carefully finished in a matching blue color that closely replicates the appearance of the original factory piece and presents very well. The display retains its authentic character and visual appeal while remaining structurally sound and fully displayable.

A remarkable survivor from Gibson's golden era, this is a museum-quality piece of guitar history that reflects the company's merchandising practices during the late 1930s. Rarely encountered and highly collectible, it represents an opportunity to acquire one of the most sought-after Gibson dealer displays from the pre-war period.
