The Fender Vibro Champ is a legendary 6-watt all-tube combo amplifier equipped with a built-in vibrato effect and a single 8-inch speaker. Despite its modest size and power rating, it delivers the warm, rich, and harmonically complex tones that have defined the Fender sound for generations. Its natural tube compression and touch-sensitive response make it an ideal choice for home practice, studio recording, and low-volume sessions where authentic vintage tone is essential.

The Champ and Vibro Champ models adopted Fender’s distinctive silverface aesthetic in 1968, marking a new visual era for the brand. This sleek aluminum-panel design remained in production until 1982. Shortly before discontinuation, Fender briefly reintroduced the classic blackface control panel styling, echoing the look of earlier 1960s models.

Though compact, these amplifiers earned a formidable reputation for their dynamic response and expressive character. Guitarists quickly discovered that the Vibro Champ’s simplicity—just volume, treble, bass, and vibrato controls—allowed the instrument’s personality to shine through. Its ability to move from sparkling cleans to smooth, saturated overdrive by simply increasing the volume has made it one of Fender’s most beloved small-format amplifiers.

Over the decades, the Vibro Champ has become a trusted studio companion across multiple genres. Its full-bodied tone and natural breakup sit beautifully in a mix without overpowering other instruments. Notably, artists such as Robbie Robertson, Kurt Cobain, and Robert Fripp have all appreciated the expressive qualities of the Vibro Champ in both recording and creative settings.

This particular 1979 export version (220V) eliminates the need for an external transformer, making it especially convenient for European users.

This Vibro Champ remains original, including its 1978 Fender transformers (Schumacher manufacture, refs 606-8-50 and 606-8-31). It comes with its original Fender Oxford 8-inch speaker.
