The Gibson Les Paul Custom has long been regarded as the pinnacle of Gibson’s solid-body guitar production, celebrated for its refined craftsmanship, elegant aesthetics, and powerful performance.

Originally introduced in 1954 as the upscale counterpart to the standard Les Paul model, production of the Les Paul Custom came to an end in 1960. However, growing demand from professional musicians and dedicated enthusiasts led to its reintroduction in 1968. From that point forward, it has remained a cornerstone of Gibson’s lineup and continues to be produced to this day.

By 1977, the Les Paul Custom carried a premium price tag of $735, making it the third most expensive solid-body guitar in Gibson’s catalog at the time. Despite this considerable cost, it enjoyed strong sales and widespread popularity. Although instruments from this period are not considered particularly rare, they are highly sought after by players and collectors alike. For many, a 1970s Les Paul Custom represents a more accessible and affordable alternative to an original 1950s example, while still delivering the unmistakable tone, feel, and visual appeal that define the model.

The instrument offered here is in very good original condition. Aside from a replaced jack connector and jack plate, the guitar remains remarkably untouched. The electronics are original, with undisturbed solder joints and original potentiometers dating to late 1976 (137 7647). Importantly, there are no breaks and no repairs to the structure of the instrument. The bridge currently installed is a later replacement, fitted to ensure reliable performance and precise intonation, while the rest of the hardware remains true to the period.

Built with a 3-piece mahogany body and matching 3-piece mahogany neck, this guitar features a solid maple top that contributes clarity and definition to its sound. The ebony fretboard provides a smooth playing surface and articulate response. It is equipped with original Gibson T-Top humbuckers, measuring 7.59K in the neck position and 7.40K in the bridge, delivering classic late-1970s warmth and punch. Additional features include original Gibson-branded Schaller tuners, a serial number of 280097, a weight of 4.75 kg, and the original Gibson hardshell case.

With its strong originality, excellent playability, and iconic status, this Les Paul Custom is ready to rock.
