Fender Vibro Champ 6W Combo Amp

The Fender Vibro Champ is a 6-watt combo amplifier featuring a built-in vibrato effect and an 8-inch speaker. Renowned for its warm, rich tones, this amp is a perfect choice for home practice and recording sessions.

A Brief History

The Champ and Vibro Champ adopted Fender’s distinctive “silverface” design in 1968, a look that remained until 1982. Just before being discontinued, they briefly returned to the blackface control panel style, reminiscent of their earlier models. Despite their small size, these amps are celebrated for their incredible tone and responsiveness, making them a favorite among musicians.

A Studio Favorite

While compact, the Vibro Champ has earned a reputation for delivering a remarkably full and dynamic sound. Its simplicity and signature Fender tone have made it a go-to amp for guitarists across genres. Legendary musicians such as Robbie Robertson, Kurt Cobain, and Robert Fripp have all embraced the Vibro Champ for its exceptional sound and reliability.

This particular model is an export version (220V), eliminating the need for an external transformer, making it more convenient for European users.

A One-Owner Vintage Gem

What makes this 1973 Fender Vibro Champ even more special is its history. This amp was originally purchased from the renowned Paul Beuscher music shop in Paris, a store with a legacy dating back to 1850 and still in operation today (shop sticker still visible on the front plate). It has been carefully maintained by a dedicated amateur guitarist, ensuring it remains in excellent condition.

Adding to its character, this amp still bears a sticker from a historic band contest held at Golf Drouot in Paris, a legendary venue that helped launch the careers of many French artists. This detail adds a unique touch to its already impressive provenance.

This Fender Vibro Champ remains largely original, retaining its vintage transformers from 1973 and several original tubes. While the original Fender speaker is included, it may require a recone to function optimally. To ensure the amp delivers its best sound, a recently added Jensen speaker has been included, offering a rich, articulate tone that complements the amp’s classic Fender sound.
