Check out this ultra-rare 1971 Fender Telecaster Thinline, presented in collector-grade condition with its original Kelly Green finish and a stunning purple pearloid pickguard. This extraordinary instrument is not just a guitar but a piece of Fender history, combining rare aesthetics, excellent craftsmanship, and a fascinating backstory.

The Thinline model was introduced in the summer of 1968 as Fender’s solution for a lighter, semi-hollow Telecaster design. Shortly thereafter, Fender offered a range of exclusive custom colors for this series, which included vibrant shades like Salmon, Hot Pink, Canary Yellow, Lavender Lilac, Jet Black, and the Kelly Green finish showcased here. Among these custom finishes, Kelly Green stands out as arguably the rarest, making this guitar a truly exceptional find. Adding to its rarity is the original purple pearloid pickguard, a striking feature only seen on a handful of Thinlines from this era.

Crafted with a mahogany body and an alder center block, this Telecaster Thinline is incredibly lightweight, tipping the scales at just 3.3 kg (7.27 lbs). The neck bears a clear and legible 3APR71B stamp, confirming its 1971 production date. While it still retains its original frets, the nut has been professionally replaced to restore functionality after the original brass nut wore out. The tuners are also original, preserving the authentic character of this vintage masterpiece.

The electronics are untouched and in excellent working order, with the original Switchcraft switch and CTS pots dating back to the 34th week of 1966. It’s worth noting that Fender sourced a substantial batch of these pots in 1966, which they continued using well into 1971-72. Both factory-wound pickups remain intact, delivering the bright, articulate tones and rich output that have made Fender Telecasters a timeless favorite.

The purple pearloid pickguard not only enhances the guitar’s unique aesthetic but also holds historical significance. Fender did not standardize the screw hole pattern for these guards, meaning the mounting hole placement varies among surviving examples. Additionally, there is a small routing cut near the neck pocket to allow access to the truss rod.

The Kelly Green gloss finish is 100% original, with no touchups or overspray, and retains its factory "paint stick" markings in the neck pocket alongside the inspector’s signature (G TORRES). Minimal wear is present, limited to minor chips along the edges and light forearm wear on the top.

This rare gem comes with its original Fender black tolex hardshell case featuring the iconic "tail" logo.

Opportunities to own a guitar of this rarity and condition are few and far between. Don’t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime piece of Fender history!
