Up for sale is an stunning example of a vintage classic—a 1970 Fender Jazz Bass in a beautiful sunburst finish.

Starting in mid-1966, Fender made a notable design change by replacing the traditional dot inlays on Jazz Bass necks with the now-famous pearloid block markers. This bass reflects that update perfectly, sporting both the block inlays and neck binding that became standard during that time. It is equipped with rosewood fretboard when 1970 was the first year when maple fretboard with block marker was available option. Logo is the black logo as introduced in 1968.

The neck, though missing a visible date stamp—likely due to the green ink fading over time, which is a common issue—clearly matches the body. Paint chips on both the neck and body align precisely, confirming they were born together in the factory.

A unique detail on this neck is the presence of a fifth hole on the butt end, which was added during production strictly for painting purposes. It's one of those small quirks that seasoned collectors appreciate.

The electronics remain original and untouched. The bass is equipped with its factory-installed grey-bottom pickups, both clearly ink-stamped with the codes "7270" and "2290," where the last digit '0' confirms the year of manufacture—1970.

The original Stackpole potentiometers, which Fender used interchangeably with CTS in 1970, are marked "3047023," indicating they were made during the 23rd week of 1970.

Accompanying them is the original red-stripe capacitor, and the solder joints remain clean and unmolested. The wiring is plastic-coated, a change Fender introduced around 1968.

The bridge on this Jazz Bass is fitted with the longer G-string intonation screw, a feature used specifically from 1970 through 1974. Another key vintage identifier is the set of original tuners, which notably lack the ® registered trademark symbol near the Fender logo—something only seen on tuners made before 1972.

To top it off, this beautiful instrument comes with an original Fender hard case, which appears to be from the mid-1970s. While not era-correct to the bass itself, it’s a great fit and offers solid protection along with vintage vibes.

This bass plays great and is set up perfectly for both live shows and studio recording.

Don’t miss your chance to own a piece of Fender history. Basses like this one, with so many original parts and features intact, are getting harder to find—especially in such well-preserved condition. Act fast before this vintage gem is gone!
