Before 1962, bass players looking to purchase a Vox bass amplifier had only two options: the AC-15 Bass and the AC-30 Bass. Both amplifiers featured open-back speaker cabinets, which tended to reduce and cancel out low-frequency response. In addition, their electronic circuits were primarily designed for guitar rather than bass. As a result, neither amplifier was capable of producing the full, rich and powerful bass tone that bass players required.
 
Recognizing this limitation, Vox decided to develop a new generation of amplifiers specifically designed for bass. Two models were introduced: the tube-powered 50-watt 1x18" Foundation Bass in 1963, and the solid-state 2x15" T.60, introduced in 1962.
 
The Vox T.60 was an important step in the development of dedicated bass amplification. Its completed design used a pair of germanium output transistors, capable of producing approximately 30–40 watts RMS, with a peak output of around 60 watts. The amplifier featured two inputs and three controls, offering a simple and practical layout. A rotary voltage selector allowed the amplifier to be connected to different mains voltages, making it suitable for international use.
 
The original T.60 speaker cabinet was equipped with two 15-inch speakers. Later versions used a combination of one 15-inch and one 12-inch speaker. The large speaker configuration was designed to deliver the powerful low-frequency response required for bass guitar.
 
The T.60 also has a connection to one of the most famous bass players in music history. Paul McCartney briefly used a Vox T.60 amplifier and cabinet with The Beatles during the early 1960s.
Production of the T.60 continued until approximately mid-to-late 1966, when Vox introduced its next generation of bass amplifiers, including the UL430, UL460 and UL4120.
 
This particular T.60 is especially interesting because it was originally purchased from Euromusic Parys Flore in Brussels and has had only one owner since new. The amplifier carries chassis serial number 1480 and amplifier serial number 1927. The transformers are stamped with the code “EX,” which dates them to May 1966. The grey amplifier panel is consistent with the later production period of 1966.
 
The amplifier is in very good original condition and comes complete with its original speaker & amplifier covers. Even cabinet wheels are still in place.
