What we have here is a very nice october 1966 Gretsch Country Gentleman Chet Atkins model with the famous and desirable “Chet

configuration,” (SuperTron in the neck & FilterTron in the bridge).

 

This model 6122 is in all original condition. Except for the typical binding problems (on the body and on the neck) it is in good technical condition. Binding problems are purely cosmetic and does not affect playability.

 

It is equipped with humbucker pickups : Supertron on the neck position and a Filtertron on the bridge.

 

Comes with Bigsby vibrato and double string mute function. Independent pads for E/A/D or G/B/E strings. Both pads work perfectly with replaced foam.

 

Played by so many artists such as : Chet Atkins, George Harrison, Lou Reed, Elvis Presley, Johnny Marr, Roy Orbison, Hank Marvin, David Crosby, Roger McGuinn, Tony Hicks just to name a few.

 

Model evolution :

1957 : First production

1961 : Double string mute (changed to single in 1967)

1962 : Simulated “F” holes as a measure to prevent feedback

1962 : Double cutaway

1964 : Supertron added as neck pickup

1965 : Serial number moved to back of headstock

 

Control description :

- Pickup Selector: Switch for selecting the pickup position (rear for neck, middle for mixed, front for bridge).

- Master Tone Selector: 3 position tone control. (bass emphasize / neutral / high-frequency roll-off).

- Master Volume knob: Control to the general volume.

- Neck Pickup Volume knob: control of the neck pickup volume.

- Bridge Pickup Volume knob: control of the bridge pickup volume.
