The Fender Deluxe Brownface is an iconic amplifier known for its smooth breakup, lush vibrato, and warm midrange presence.

This particular 1962 example, serial number D03789, remains in remarkable condition, with minimal updates made for safety and preservation. It embodies a crucial period in Fender’s amplifier evolution, bridging the gap between the tweed and blackface eras.

I bought this amp from original owner back in 2014 then sold to a friend of mine. After 10 years with same owner the amp is back for sale after full service.

Historical Significance of the Brownface Deluxe

The Fender Deluxe underwent multiple design changes throughout its history. The transition from the 5E3 Tweed Deluxe to the Brownface era marked a significant shift in tonal character and functionality. Manufactured between 1961 and 1963, the Brownface Deluxe featured the 6G3 circuit, which introduced a more defined tone with improved headroom while still retaining the beloved organic overdrive when pushed. Players such as Mike Campbell and Roy Buchanan have famously used these amplifiers for their smooth yet dynamic response. The amp’s 15-watt output, powered by a pair of 6V6 tubes, delivers a harmonically rich tone that suits everything from warm cleans to gritty blues and rock leads. It also has a great tremolo circuit with a typical brownface sound.
